Design process
We started basing the design on a cafe area in the forest campus with plans to use the lighting there along with bringing our own lights to the site but we couldn't get the space for December so we moved the performance back to our theatre. We designed what lights we want to use for the ending scene. There will be a spot light on all of our character while they flash on and off before converging on the culprit in the centre.

The audience are going to have light up candles on there tables to give the dinner party feel and to give a source of light for when we change the acts.

With the move to the theatre we been given more choice for lighting which gives me more diverse lighting ideas. One idea is the lighting in the lighting booth for when the opening monologue starts. We light the booth green when the character of Nick Gifts starts talking and it changes to red when the character starts to cough with it changing back to green after he fake collapsed to then stay red when the character actually dies.

For when the detective says the culprits are the top table we plan to have them in a spotlight with them each having there reactions to it and the light staying on them for the rest of the 1st act.

One light we have for most of the performance is a general wash in the centre of the stage for when most of the characters are in the stage.

Health and safety
Health and safety is important while working with lights as accidents can happen with wire placement and how the overhead lights can come loose over time. Strobe lights can also be a hazard to certain audience members as it can cause fits or damage there eyes.

Some light fixtures can potentially fall off where there set so you will have to check them occasionally check them for any lose parts and wires to prevent them from falling off the fixtures. Working at heights is also a safety issue as you can potentially fall and cause injuries. To help prevent this you should have someone spotting you if working with a ladder to prevent it from shaking while it being climbed. A genie lift is a safe option as it has barriers around where someone should be standing along with controls for adjustment.

Types of events
Different types of performances would require different lighting styles for instance a play would have a different lighting style to a music gig.

Lighting for a musical would have lights to fit the tempo and mood of every song and dance number along with lights to fit with the mood of the acted scenes and to fit with what the characters are discussing.

A music gig would have lighting that matches to each song a band is playing. The lighting can range from strobes to match the beat or a constant spotlight on a key performer in the band that is playing.

A dance performance would have lights that fit the atmosphere and type of dance. A street dance would have drastically different lights to a contemporary dance.

Review
The lighting design was really effective for the shows setting and the colours helped with certain scenes especially the death of a character with the change from green to red and the lights that draw attention to specific clues when the inspector showed them off to the audience.

I feel like I should develop my ideas more as the ones I came up with were simple in design and usage. What I would do differently is have more variety in lighting and colour changes during the show and the discussion scenes.
