Choreography

Choreographers in the performance industry have normally specialise in one form of dance but there will be ones who have a broad variety for use in different situations.

There are many different types of dance which choreographers have choice from including street, ballet, jazz and country.

Choreographers normally learn from other choreographers on different dance styles and also attend dance schools to learn dance styles with some going on to be the teachers themselves.

Some choreographers form groups to make dance together while others prefer to choreograph dances by them selves. An example of a group of choreographers is boogie storm which is a group of dancers who perform street dance all in star wars stormtrooper outfits. This group entered Britain's got talent in 2016 and made it to the finals of that year.

Choreographer pursue a career in dance choreography in films and TV or theatre. This requires learning different styles of dance or a specified dance style they would like to focus on for a few years before they can get hired for a job.

Teaching a part of my own choreography

When I was teaching someone part of my choreography I decide to teach the body drop part and quick arm movements as they were the most simple moves in my choreography. While teaching my dance it was quite difficult at times as I'd just got a grasp of the part recently it went quite well as the person I taught remembered the moves quite well.

Rough performance of choreography

Improvements for this dance I need to make is making my less loose and more to the point of the movement. I also need to add movement variety to specific parts of my dance and to properly makes sure of moves.

We practised with experienced dancers and learnt parts of there dances to get inspiration for our dances. For the dance we learned from the level 3's we looked at different leg movements and canon for group dances. We did some spins to clap and quick arm movements.

Skill analysis

I definitely feel like my dance skills has improved compared to the start after looking at different street choreographers. My arm movements have definitely improved as with the start they were really loose and had no power to them. The speed at which I react to timing has definitely improved as I was slow react to any change in movement when I first started. I also feel like my agility in dance has improved with the speed of the movements I was doing along with my stamina.

Choreography in the industry

Choreography in the dance industry has been used in more things other than stage performances and street dances. They have been used in video games in recent years more specifically large games like fortnite which releases dance moves from choreographers from youtube and tiktok as moves your characters can do in game. They've also been put into rhythm games with different choreographers making the dance for the background with some of these being replaced with characters so the choreographers would be placed in specialised suits to track the dance movements.

Warm ups

Warm ups are a important part of a choreographers profession as without a warm up they can injure themselves while either practicing or performing there routines.

To warm up they will need to stretch each limb to help them get ready to perform.

Copyright in the industry

Choreographers can copyright dance moves and routines so that they can't be used without permission. If someone does use it a lawsuit can occur.

For a choreographer to copyright a dance move or piece they must record the work in a physical medium for example recorded or written down.

Final show

The final show went really well. I felt super confident with my final dance and I felt that the audience really enjoyed it.

My choreography

My dance was a street dance that included a lot of quick arm movements along with some steps across stage. I started the dance with a hand stand to help get into the first movement of my dance which was a hand rotation into some sidesteps. The body roll I did was put in to fit in with part of the song to move and with the way I did it really fit with the beat of the song. I did at least two body drops to fit into the song with one going into a standing up position to get back into the rhythm of the song. I included arm flicks to move to the beat of the song along with some air punches.
